Co-curricular programmes, are an integral way schools can engage students in the wider community and teach important life skills.
They are an opportunity for students to engage in subjects away from the pressures of the quantitative measures of academic performance.

Now more than ever, developing a thriving co-curricular programme is an essential part of promoting employability, academic attainment and teaching young people the skills they need to make good life choices. These skills have benefits well beyond the classroom.

From September 2020 we introduced a compulsory co-curricular activity for every Year 7 & 8 student. They each choose to enrol on a subject that will run from 15.05 and 16.05 every Thursday after their normal lessons.

Students will have an opportunity to visit each department area to discover what activities are being offered by each subject and then make a choice of 3 activities to attend every Thursday during each school Cycle during their first week at West Exe School.

Some of the co-curricular activities that will be available may include; Philosophy, First Aid, Forensics, Politics, Expedition Training, Photography, Sign Language, studying a Drama performance, Music Technology and Fitness club plus many more!

This co-curricular activity will then be a regular session running each Thursday. Students will cover a minimum 3 different enrichment activities per school year.

Other clubs will continue to run outside of this programme which students are welcome to attend as they wish, it is only the Thursday session that will be compulsory for all Year 7 students joining us in September 2019.
